From W. A. Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik to Charles Camilleri’s Malta Suite: experience a captivating musical journey with a string sextet from the Malta Youth Orchestra, set against the stunning rooftop backdrop of the Catholic Institute in Floriana.
This concert is presented in collaboration with the Malta Youth Orchestra with the full support of Michael Laus — Principal Conductor of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Malta Youth Orchestra. Karol Aquilina (guitar), Teona Debono (violin), Bernard Curmi (violin), Mikaela Balyot (viola), Ryan Paul Camilleri (cello), Joachim Bros Debono Sultana (double bass) will be performing under the tutorship of Michael Laus.
The Malta Youth Orchestra (MYO) is dedicated to nurturing the skills of Malta’s most talented young musicians, offering them opportunities to pursue their aspirations as future professional orchestral performers.
The Orchestra made its debut public performance in December 2004 at the President’s Palace in Valletta, under the baton of its founder and current director, Michael Laus. It was directed by Joseph Vella from 2011 to 2014. The MYO also worked under other distinguished conductors, including Peter Stark, Robert Hodge, Kelly Kuo, Michalis Economou, Riccardo Bianchi, Darrell Ang, Virginia Martínez, and Philip Walsh. José García Gutiérrez served as director until 2023.
In July 2024, the orchestra achieved notable acclaim at the Florence Youth Festival, with performances in both Montecatini and Florence.
