Description

This Carnival, join us at Esplora for the 2nd Edition of KartaFesta, as we celebrate the joy of old traditions with a sustainable twist!

This year, we’re reviving skills and customs that are fading with time such as darning and sewing clothes. Visitors will get their hands dirty making their own paper and discovering the traditional techniques behind crafting our vibrant carnival floats. Sustainability isn’t new—it’s been a part of us for generations. This Carnival let’s have some fun rediscovering it and reconnecting with old-school traditions, by enjoying hands-on activities, and showing our love for planet earth in the process.


Prices include entrance and activities.

Sounds Amazing


For: Families with children of all ages
Type: Science Show (Scheduled)
Description: What is sound? How do we hear it, and how can we change it? Explore the musical mysteries behind instruments in the Sounds Amazing science show and discover how sound is produced, how it travels through our ears, and how we can alter it. Join us for this interactive science show and learn how you can create your own instruments!

 

DIY Paper-making


For: Families with children aged 6+

Type: Hands-on Workshop (Scheduled)

Description: What if we were to tell you that there’s a fun and easy way to turn old paper into brand-new sheets? Instead of cutting down trees to make paper from scratch, we’ll show you how to recycle your overused paper into fresh pages. This workshop will engage kids and parents alike in a fun, educational experience that promotes sustainability and creativity. Join us and discover the endless possibilities of DIY paper making.


Code-a-Parade


For: Families with children aged 5+

Type: Hands-on Workshop (Scheduled)

Description: Join the fun and excitement of the Code-a-Parade! In this interactive workshop, families will have the opportunity to parade through the vibrant streets of Valletta with the Matata Talebot! Build your very own carnival float using building blocks and transport your dance group to designated stops along the route for a dancing parade! All thanks to some simple coding instructions. This creative coding adventure blends creativity, technology and festive dancing!


Let’s See Colour


For: 2-3 years

Type: Storytelling workshop (Scheduled)

Description: Join us for this interactive storytelling workshop where your little ones will be delighted to meet Henry the Hedgehog, who is discovering the beautiful world of colours for the very first time! Let your children explore and interact with Henry while they help him learn about the bright yellow sun and the lush green grass using colourful shadows and shapes, imaginative play and storytelling. This workshop is a delightful way to spark curiosity and to support early learning in the youngest minds. Bring your little ones and enjoy a colourful, magical experience!

Type: Science on the spot (Drop-in)

Description: This year, Esplora is building its very own carnival float, but it’s not quite ready yet, as we need your help to finish it! Join the Esplora team as they guide you through the fascinating art of papier-mâché, a timeless tradition that uses every little scrap to create something lasting and beautiful. You’ll learn the creative layering techniques used to build carnival floats, and how this method has developed over time.

It's a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about art, engineering, and creativity, while having fun and making memories together!


Sewwi Biċċa


For: Ages 6+

Type: Science on the spot (Drop-in)

Description: No more missing buttons or holes in your socks! we’ll teach you some simple sewing stitches so you can fix small damages and keep your clothes in your closet longer.
