Description
For this special concert, legendary pianist Martha Argerich will be joined by violinist Maria Solozobova for a rare duo performance. The concert will begin with Seascapes by Alexey Shor, an evocative four-movement work detailing scenes from an imagined voyage across the waves, before continuing with a violin sonata Prokofiev originally intended for flute before later rewriting for violin, the version which still remains most popular to this day. Comprising four contrasting movements, this duet written in 1943 remains relatively playful despite the harsh realities facing the warring Soviet Union at the time, the fourth movement closing the work with an almost savage joy as it energetically weaves complex dances of both melody and harmony, deftly bounding between violin and piano in a flurry of energy these two virtuosi are certain to bring to life like no other.
The InClassica Malta International Music Festival is organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture (EUFSC), led by Konstantin Ishkhanov, in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).
