Description
Daniel Hope has achieved distinction not only as one of the world’s best and most thoughtful violinists but also as broadcaster, musical activist, author and producer. He performs Bruch’s evergreen First Violin Concerto this evening, bringing decades of experience and insight to a piece packed with instantly memorable melodies and heartfelt lyricism. “As a rule,” wrote the composer, “a good folk-tune is more valuable than 200 created works of art.” His famous Violin Concerto’s folk-like themes and impassioned intensity combine the best of folk and classical music. Sergey Smbatyan and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra frame Bruch’s masterwork with the dramatic energy of Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and the valedictory melancholy of Prokofiev’s Seventh Symphony, written not long before its composer’s death.
The InClassica Malta International Music Festival is organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture (EUFSC), led by Konstantin Ishkhanov, in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).
