Description
Sergey Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2, premiered in 1912, is of such virtuosity and difficulty that many pianists refuse to play it in live concerts. The enormous technical bravura required for the interpretation of this masterpiece is even visible: During the first movement Prokofiev, instead of the normal two, uses three staves for the enormous amount of notes the soloist has to play. Young Korean pianist Yekwoon Sunwoo is defying the difficulties of this intimidating concert under the baton of Gergely Madaras. The renowned advocate for contemporary music is going to conduct the orchestral version of Maurice Ravel's “Ma Mère l'oye” – a piece of standard repertoire that, in contrast to Prokofiev's concerto, fascinates by simplicity and the plain beauty of its music.
The InClassica Malta International Music Festival is organised by the European Foundation for Support of Culture (EUFSC), led by Konstantin Ishkhanov, in collaboration with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).
