Kerekes Band:

Our journey spans nearly 30 years, from the sultry atmosphere of Moldavian and Gyimes dance houses to world music festival main stages. Our unique sound takes you into the universe of Ethno Funk, where the pulsating rhythms reminiscent of Moldavian music are complemented by riff-driven flute and East-European 8-string lute themes.

Formed in 1995 in Eger, Hungary, we have released nine studio albums—three of which have gone gold, one platinum, and two won the Hungarian Music Awards. Our debut album, Pimasz, was selected by Songlines magazine as one of the best albums of 2005, and Back to Folk reached the 6th spot on the European world music charts. In 2008, Kerekes Band was named Hungary’s cultural ambassador.

Having performed in 32 countries, from Jamaica to Kazakhstan, our sound has resonated with audiences worldwide. From rock-infused rhythms to traditional shepherd sounds, we blend the old and new to create an unmistakable sonic signature. The pulsating rhythms of the koboz and viola, fueled by rock energy, empower the ethno funk that breaks free from traditional boundaries. With a powerful rhythm section driven by bass and drums, and Zsombor Fehér's riff-driven flute melding folk with psychedelic rock, our performances captivate and energize, leaving audiences ready to dance.
