Description

Jazz Assemblea is an open invitation to come together and celebrate the vibrant spirit of jazz in Malta. Now in its second edition, the festival returns to Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta from September to November 2025 with a dynamic programme of live concerts, visual experiences, discussions, workshops, an album launch, and more. 


EXHIBITION | 25.09-09.11.25

Jazz Vignettes continues its visual exploration of Malta’s evolving jazz scene. This edition spotlights the work of three leading artists and features a newly produced documentary on the life and legacy of Charles ‘City’ Gatt.

A look back at Malta’s iconic jazz club, and its influential role in shaping the local jazz scene. A panel discussion, in Maltese, ft. Paul Giordimaina, Philip Fenech and Walter Vella, moderated by Dominic Galea.

Celebrating the contributions of Maltese women in jazz, and exploring how they’ve challenged stereotypes in a traditionally male-dominated genre. A panel discussion, in Maltese, ft. Nadine Axisa, Angie Vella Zarb and Mariele Zammit, moderated by Claudette Pace. 

 

8PM - Jazz Reunites, Studio B

Mro. Dominic Galea brings together a lineup of local jazz artists for a one-night-only reunion performance. These seasoned musicians - some returning to the stage after years away - promise an unforgettable evening of soulful jazz and timeless classics. Featuring Dominic Galea on piano, Ben Galea and Roger Camilleri on drums, Ronnie Carr and David Chircop on bass, Effie Azzopardi on trumpet, Tony Bartolo, Doreen Galea and Eve Daly on vocals.

10AM - Inside the Rhythm Section with William Smith & Dean Montanaro 

Designed for drummers and bassists of all levels, this workshop explores the foundations of playing in a jazz rhythm section. Topics include timekeeping, walking bass, swing, and instrumental interaction. 


11AM – Harmony, Movement, Rhythm with Sandro Zerafa 

This session focuses on musical expression through harmonic movement, tension and release, and rhythmic precision. Open to all instrumentalists, it offers practical tools to enhance phrasing and time feel in jazz performance.
