Description
Renowned concert pianist Charlene Farrugia is set to release a new album, Melita: Maltese Piano Music, under the prestigious Grand Piano/Naxos label this April. The album is a tribute to Malta’s rich yet often overlooked classical music heritage, featuring works by composers Charles Camilleri, Carlo Diacono, Josie Mallia Pulvirenti and Carmelo Pace.
A passionate advocate for Maltese music, Charlene has carefully curated a program that showcases the diverse styles and influences that have shaped the country’s classical tradition. “Malta has a unique musical voice, blending Mediterranean warmth with European sophistication. With Melita, I want to bring this music to a global audience and ensure it gets the recognition it deserves,” Charlene explains.
The official launch of Melita will take place on 5th April at the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta, organized by the National Agency for the Performing Arts (NAPA). This special event will celebrate the album’s release with a live performance and insights into the music featured on the recording.
The CD release marks a significant moment for Maltese classical music, drawing interest from both international and local audiences. Melita: Piano Music from Malta will be available for streaming and purchase worldwide through Naxos and major music platforms.
